The network is accessible to any internet device such as smartphones, game systems, WiFi TV's, Computers, and Indie Stream branded IPTV boxes. Starting in May 2015, the first programs will appear and broadcast over a 24 hour period, 7 days a week. Programs will include talk shows, sitcoms, dramas, news, movies, and interest programs for health & fitness, education, home improvement, fashion & beauty, cooking, business opportunities, shopping, and  LIVE Pay Per View events. GEMS stands for Girls, Elders, Mothers, Sisters and represents the culture of being women whom have been made throughout history and the world, a minority. To us GEMS is also an acronym for women that compares us to the genuine yet diverse regal beauty of precious gems. There are no two alike, even twins have some difference. Women are precious yet strong and resilient. We have so many layers to o ur personalities, that represent our capabilities and accomplishments. We are visionaries, warriors, providers, inventors, creators and that is just to name a few of our greatest titles. GEMS Network TV strives to fill a gap that is missing from today's network TV. Many TV shows and movies depict women in a weak, victimized, non substantial role that does not represent our true personalities and instead, they show only a small part of those of us who have not found their voice of courage. The major media networks provide opportunities to women to bring material to the networks but in such a limited and rare fashion that it never can represent every core of a woman. Thanks to technology, and generous sponsors, we can now produce our own programming to fill in the gap that exists on traditional television and cinema.

Why GEMS Network TV?

With today's TV programming lacking programs that show the diversity that women bring to entertainment, it proves that the many female filmmakers , producers, writers and directors are not being utilized to provide the needed representation of women to the industry.  The role models produced by the production companies lack substance and do not reflect the powerful influence women have on the world and do not promote the wonderful things women are capable of doing. Women are phenomenal and need to see each other in a brighter light on everyday TV programming. Women inspire, women cultivate, and women encourage others to do great things and seek out the powers within. We decided to take on this format to produce the programming lacking on other networks because it gives us a less limited and broader reach to women all over the world through the access of the internet. Over 6 billion people in the world have internet access and use many devices for alternative programming. This allows us to have a global reach to show all women our solidarity by providing them empowering programming.  Another issue is funding based on the industry's lack of confidence that women can bring large audiences and successful box office results. In 2011, women represented only a little over 25% of the major films made, and in  quoting an article posted by Jordin Zakarin, a journalist for online media site "The Wrap" , "A comprehensive study by San Diego State’s Center for the Study of Women in Television and Film determined that women represented only 15 percent of protagonists in the 100 top-grossing films of 2013, 29 percent of major characters, and 30 percent of all speaking characters. Further, only 13 percent of those films had either an equal number of major female and male characters, or more major female characters than male characters, the study called “It’s a Man’s (Celluloid) World” found."(read more at The Wrap )
The jury is still out on 2014 given the current argument on the lack of diversity for minorities in selected Oscar nominated films.

How Will GEMS Network TV Help Women?

The GEMS Network TV is independently funded and provides opportunities for filmmakers to create quality programming and film projects to the network that represent women the way they are underrepresented in Hollywood and TV networks. Projects range from documentaries, to major film projects. Filmmakers do not have to be women but the majority of them are women who find a lack of the same opportunities in traditional platforms. As long as the female subjects in the projects have a higher presentation in the project, men are also allowed to share this opportunity.  Project genres include sitcoms, special interest, drama, informational, educational, inspirational, and technical or science fiction programs. GEMS investors provide the funding that allows these filmmakers to explore new techniques, quality resources, celebrity and indie talent, a variety of set locations, and using the best equipment that is also used in major film projects. GEMS Network TV also provides the marketing and promotion through various resources to provide the exposure of the programming to the public. All programming is available 24/7 and is accessible via any internet capable device. This platform gives the programming a wider range of diverse audience not normally accessed by major networks in the USA. Many cable networks are reaching only a select demographic of audiences using traditional television yet are just beginning to provide the programming over the internet at additional costs or through third party providers. This programming is pretty much replicated on the internet and does not give any more diversity for women than what is on the actual cable network. GEMS features all independent programming not shown on any other network, therefore it does not repeat any programming from other networks. This provides a more unique value to the filmmakers on the GEMS Network TV Channel because it is a fresh platform for viewers looking for different unseen before programming. It also provides the filmmakers opportunities to show their previously overlooked talents and projects that were on a more limited venue such as You Tube or other internet video hosts. As part of the traditional production group, the filmmakers now have the abilities to create quality programming that is usually minimized from lack of funding and the limited range of exposure.
